South Sea Pearls

What is a South Sea pearl?

Rare and beautiful, South Sea pearls are the known as the Queen of all pearls, and demand a premium price due to their size, lustre and quality. South Sea pearls are known to have the thickest average nacre of all cultured pearls, with an unparalleled lustre.

South Sea pearls range from 7mm up to 20+mm with the majority of the pearls falling in the 9-15mm range and anything above 15mm incredibly rare.

What type of oyster does a South Sea pearl grow in?

The South Sea Pearl grows in the Pinctada maxima oyster which is native to Australia and Indonesia, where The Autore Group has it’s farming operations. The Pinctada maxima oyster produces a spectrum of shades from white to golden pearls and this species can also be found in Myanmar, Philippines and Malaysia. The Pinctada Magherterifia oyster produces a spectrum of shades from black to green to aubergine pearls, and this species can be commonly found in Tahiti, Fiji and The Cook Islands.
